Fact Sheet

MISSION
The St. Louis Police Foundation, in partnership with citizens, businesses and charitable organizations, provides monetary aid, services and goods to the St. Louis Police Department to support programs, initiatives and projects that are strategically focused to complement the Department’s policing strategies and ensure the highest level of police service to the St. Louis community.

WHAT IS NEEDED?
St. Louis’ Police Department runs on a bare-bones budget and still has been able to reduce crime. Federal money is less available and the tax base is declining. With 88% of the annual budget needed for personnel, there is little left to pay for new technology and improved training to help keep our citizens and officers safe. The Foundation provides a safety net to fund critical needs.

WHO HELPS?
Every individual, business and organization in the greater St. Louis area can play a vital role in making the community a safer place to live, work and visit. Annual memberships begin at just $100 and include admission to the Fall Sports Kickoff Luncheon. Donations are always welcome.

WHAT DO MEMBERS DO?
Membership has no requirements other than annual dues.

HOW IS THE FOUNDATION FUNDED?
Absolutely none of the funds collected nor disbursed by the Foundation come from the Police Department or taxpayers. The Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, collects annual dues from its members, solicits donations and holds one annual fundraising event.

FALL SPORTS KICKOFF LUNCHEON
The Fall Sports Kickoff Luncheon, which is open to the public, is the Foundation’s sole fundraising event. Hosted by dedicated Foundation supporters Joe Buck, Dan Dierdorf and Ozzie Smith, the luncheon and sports forum is held the day after Labor Day (9/6/11) at America’s Center. General admission is $100 per person and the event is open to the public. Sponsorship packages are also available and can be viewed on our website:  www.stlouispolicefoundation.org.

RESULTS
In its short history, the Foundation has raised more than $1 million for Police Department programs, equipment and training. Some of the projects it has funded are ATVs for Forest Park patrols, in-car camera systems for all marked police vehicles, sniper rifles, monitors for helicopter cameras, a horse for mounted patrol and air conditioning in a training facility.  The Foundation also underwrites the annual Memorial Breakfast that honors fallen officers.

HISTORY
Founded in 2007 by retired executive Doug Albrecht and former police commissioner Chris Goodson, the St. Louis Police Foundation is modeled after those in New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Leadership consists of an executive director and 17 volunteer board members.
